Taiwanese PC maker Acer has won a massive deal to supply notebook computers to the NSW Department of Education and Training, cementing its place as market leader in the government sector.
Acer will roll-out about 100,000 notebooks and PCs in schools and TAFE’s across the state over the next four years.
The department awarded Acer the business after the Commerce department confirmed its whole-of-government PC supply panel, selecting four suppliers – Acer, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and ASI. Commerce had flagged the four suppliers in May, but the panel was only recently formalised.
While Acer is the number three PC vendor across all markets, it is number one in the public sector. The NSW education deal strengthens that position.
The company has had a good run in recent months. In August, Acer was awarded a contract to supply the Australian Bureau of Statistics with about 3,000 PC and monitors in a two-year deal with a value estimated at $4 million.
Also in August, the Victorian Police confirmed a major refresh of an existing contract with Acer after conducting a market test.
Under the new agreement, Acer will supply the Victorian Police with 10,000 PCs over a six month period to the end of December in a deal worth more than $10,000.
